The time has come for a new era in Hip Hop. A surprising leader has emerged, and is sharpening her claws. Femininity and Power once again have a common voice. BadKat first began her journey with Hip Hop in the conscious underground circuit of North Carolina (1994 – 1999), After seven years of performing, booking and event planning, BadKat returned to her hometown (Tallahassee, Florida) to pursue her career in media marketing. Still writing and recording at night, she grew frustrated over the lack of performance opportunities in Florida. BadKat decided to relocate again, this time to the music mecca of the South, Athens, Georgia (home of international legends R.E.M.). Within a year, BadKat released her first solo project, ‘badkat unreleased.’ Receiving a strong local and regional welcome, BadKat used the momentum to organize several community outreach projects including: Summer Splash 2006, Hip Hop Homecoming Festival (held annually), Hip Hop for Social Change (discussion forums), and many events to help foster the musical and writing talents of women and independent artists throughout her three years in the area. Performing live approximately 200 times in the following two years, her presence was being felt by Hip Hop heavyweights. By 2008 BadKat was receiving a lot of collaboration and performance requests. She was invited to participate in The White Rapper Show with MC Serch; she was having monthly meetings with the Temple of Hip Hop, building with KRS One, Minister Server and Ishues in Atlanta; and eventually she started receiving requests to collaborate with musicians on an international scale. Her first trip to the E.U. since 1996 was to Prague for the infamous Hip Hop Kemp in 2008. Turning towards Germany shortly afterwards, BadKat set up shop in Berlin where she now resides while working on her upcoming album, and other various projects. She is currently involved in musical productions in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, USA and the UK. BadKat has involved herself with numerous charity and community projects here in Germany, and is continually working to create a schedule that is geared towards having a resonating impact on the public. It has always been the goal of BadKat to use her music to bring about positive change to the community. In turn, this is why the listeners admire BadKat. Not only can they relate to the content of her music, her overall melodic and savvy delivery over heavy bass lines and thumping percussion is enough to set any room on fire. BadKat will be working here in the E.U. for the next years to come, with plans to visit more of her fans throughout Europe, as well as, the Far East, Australia, Africa and South America. She continues to work on various recording projects, including her next album where she places commonplace social and political battles on display for the general public to bare witness. Expect some of the most riveting commentary ever to be heard in Hip Hop on her next full-length album, as she exposes the many facets that keep the general population under control and hopeless. BadKat has several live performances scheduled in the E.U. over the next few months, and continues to make herself available to her listeners. Her rhythmic expressions and crowd control allow her to dominate the mood every time she is on stage. BadKat blazes mics with the best of MCs, and is capable of providing the performance to prove it. Already she has fans across Europe’s musicians and artists, and there are many more to come.
